2019 CHILDREN'S CHORAL FESTIVAL IS SCHEDULED FOR: SATURDAY MAY 4, 2019

The Northern California Association of Kodály Educators is pleased to announce the 23rd Annual HNU/NCAKE Children’s Choral Festival for elementary and middle school choirs.

The festival, sponsored by the Kodály Center, will take place Saturday May 4, 2019 in the Valley Center for Performing Arts at Holy Names University.

 The guest clinician for this year’s festival will be Karyn Silvaof the renowned Peninsula Girls Chorus.

The festival will consist of two sessions:

Morning Session  - Elementary Choirs           

9:00am-12.30pm (Check in VCPA lobby 8.30am)

Afternoon Session - Middle School Choirs  

2:00pm-5.30pm (Check in VCPA lobby 1.30pm) 

Each session will consist of three parts:

•       Mass rehearsal - choral warm-up and rehearsal of the mass pieces (already prepared and memorized) under the direction of guest clinicians.

•       Rotations - activities include individual choir rehearsals; clinic with guest clinicians; listen to another choir clinic; singing games and a break.

•       Concert - performances by each choir (strictly 5-6 minutes, two pieces, one of which must be a cappella), followed by all choirs performing the mass pieces.

Application:

Return the attached application with the registration fee of $175 by March 1, 2019 to secure your position in the festival.

If submitting an application for more than one choir from an organization, please indicate your first and second choice.  If the slots do not fill, we will accept a second choir from the same organization based upon postmark of application.

Note:  Directors must be members of OAKE/NCAKE in order to participate.  If you are not currently a member, you may register at www.oake.org

Since 1996, the Kodály Center at Holy Names University and NCAKE have partnered together to provide opportunities for local choirs to receive coaching and perform for each other in a non-competitive and engaging festival that brings together all members from the music education and performing communities.  

In addition to non-competitive performing and coaching opportunities, festival participants leave with a greater sense of what Kodály based choral music education provides: a holistic and musical approach to creating music, with activities (including songs and games) that address technical and artistic components of music making.  All of this goes in to a day-long festival with culminating performances for families and friends to enjoy.
