Position Overview:

iSing Silicon Valley is seeking a passionate Kinder teacher to join our AMAZING teaching team and lead our NEW Kinder training level, starting in September 2023. The iSing Kinder teacher  will teach weekly classes for kinder-aged singers at our Palo Alto location and, with consultation from the Artistic Directors, be responsible for the overall programming and curriculum. Through a Kodaly and Orff-based approach, our Kinder teacher will meet once a week with each class to teach basic music literacy and singing skills using play, dance, games, stories, and instruments. We welcome the input of the Kinder teacher on the weekly schedule for our new Kinder classes.

Artistic and Executive Director Responsibilities

The Artistic and Executive Director will set the artistic vision and organizational operation of the organization as a whole and direct the Young Women’s Chorus. Artistic Responsibilities

  • Define and embody the artistic and educational standards of the YWCP, inspire the organization.

  • Oversee and direct the management of all concerts (including training choirs).

  • Mentor artistic staff to ensure the singers’ high music education and artistry level.

  • Build and maintain relationships and cultivate opportunities to collaborate with other high-level musicians and arts organizations, including identifying and facilitating opportunities for creative collaborations with other artists that can expand the diversity and repertoire of the YWCP.

  • Commission new works for treble voices.

  • Maintain artistic growth through membership in choral organizations and attend workshops and conventions as appropriate.

  • Lead singer recruitment efforts and oversee placement auditions.

Hours, Compensation and Benefits

The Artistic and Executive Director will report to the YWCP Board of Directors. Compensation, including benefits, is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is salaried and full-time, with a schedule that includes regular weeknight and weekend commitments. Salary starting at $110,000, negotiated based on education and experience.

Regular YWCP rehearsals take place on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons at the Calvary Presbyterian Church in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco. The Artistic and Executive Director will work from home during their non-rehearsal hours.

The Young Women’s Choral Projects of San Francisco seeks a part-time rehearsal coordinator and administrative assistant. The employee is an integral part of YWCP’s small administrative team, assisting YWCP at all rehearsals and self-produced concerts.

THE ORGANIZATION:

The Young Women’s Choral Projects of San Francisco, led by Interim Artistic Director Dr. Martín Benvenuto, is recognized as a world-class choral organization for young women. Founded in 2012 by Dr. Susan McMane, YWCP includes six levels of choral experience for young women ages 4-18 from across the San Francisco Bay Area. The mission of YWCP is to transform the lives of young women through exceptional artistry in choral performance, and to bring the expressive power of their music to the community, the nation, and the world. Through YWCP, participants of richly diverse socio-ethnic backgrounds find their voices as singers, artists and women in a nurturing environment that empowers them to achieve artistic and personal excellence. 2. Check-in choristers at rehearsals and be a staff presence in the building:

Sundays 2:30-6:15pm 3 times a month, and 1:30 – 6:15pm once a month

Tuesdays 3:30-5:45pm

3. Communicate with parents regarding all absences and tardies and send memos and general emails when needed

4. Keep attendance records for all choruses online

5. Be present as an assistant at all self-produced dress rehearsals and concerts

6. Help with special event setup, clean up and logistics

7. Help coordinate large mailings with volunteers

8. Help secure volunteers for various tasks

9. Help at in-person auditions 3 times a year

10. Help with other administrative tasks, as projects come up

HOURS: Average 14 hours a week (concert and event weeks will require extra hours)

Communications, Development, and Recruiting Manager (Ragazzi Boys Chorus)

Ragazzi Boys Chorus (www.ragazzi.org), San Francisco Bay Area’s premier choral organization for boys, seeks an inspired and vibrant Communications, Development, and Communications Manager.

Ragazzi begins its 35th season under the artistic and administrative leadership of Kent Jue. We provide exceptional educational and performance opportunities for boys in the art of choral singing. Our thriving organization serves over 175 boys and young men, ages 5–18, from 100 schools and 30 cities. Boys progress through six tiered ensembles as they achieve musical and developmental benchmarks. We empower our choristers to create positive change in their communities and develop young men of character and distinction. Ragazzi produces its own concert series and regularly collaborates with such ensembles as the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera, Symphony Silicon Valley, and Opera San Jose. The Communications, Development, and Recruiting Manager (CDRM) is responsible for articulating Ragazzi’s brand to a broad range of community constituents. Part-Time Teaching Artist (Cantare con Vivo)

Cantare’s Classroom Music Education program provides tuition-free choral music residencies to over 3,000 students weekly in underserved Oakland schools.

Cantare is seeking a dynamic, experienced music teacher to join our team of professional Teaching Artists, working with lower elementary grades (TK-2nd) during the school day, in general music lessons.

Hours:

● Ten 35-min lessons conducted weekly for TK-2 nd graders at one Oakland school

● Possibility of additional work with after-school choir

● End-of-year culmination performances (format and dates TBD)

Ragazzi Boys Chorus (www.ragazzi.org), the San Francisco Bay Area’s largest choral organization for boys, seeks an inspired and vibrant Primary Group Chorus Director (PGCD) to lead one of three entry-level choruses on Wednesday evenings from 5:00-7:40p.

Ragazzi begins its 35th season under the artistic and administrative leadership of Kent Jue. We provide exceptional educational and performance opportunities for boys in the art of choral singing. Our thriving organization serves over 175 boys and young men, ages 5–18, from over 100 schools and 30 cities. Boys progress through six-tiered ensembles as they achieve musical and developmental benchmarks. We empower our choristers to create positive change in their communities and develop young men of character and distinction. Ragazzi produces its own concert series and regularly collaborates with such ensembles as the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera, Symphony Silicon Valley, and Opera San Jose. Ragazzi is supported by 14 teaching artists and six administrators. Our robust program includes a comprehensive theory program, a sleep-away camp, and annual tours.

Each Primary Group comprises approximately 16-20 entry-level boys in grades 1-4. Reporting to the Coordinator of Training Ensembles, the PGCD designs the curriculum for their class and delivers rehearsal instruction preparing boys for performances in collaboration with the other directors. The PGCD oversees boys’ fulfillment of placement requirements for the next level, including their progress through the Ragazzi Theory Program as separately taught by the Theory Director.

In addition, the PGCD:

● Plans and conducts rehearsals that include vocal technique, sight-reading with moveable do, theory, performance practice, and repertoire (collaborative pianist provided)

● Develops and fosters a structured, nurturing, and joyful environment that creates enthusiasm for singing, the ensemble, and the Ragazzi program

● Communicates the Ragazzi philosophy clearly and effectively to boys and families, laying the groundwork for higher levels of commitment to the program

● Sends formal and informal evaluations, keeping boys and families abreast of progress

Position Summary

The Instructor of Voice and Theory is the primary teacher responsible for grade classes of the boy choristers (3rd through 8th grades). Under the direction of the Choirmaster, they develop and implement the curriculum necessary for the success of the choir program, working both with Grace Cathedral and with Cathedral School for Boys.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan, teach, and evaluate students in grade classes (Monday-Friday, around 3 classes per day)

• Develop necessary handouts, activities, and other classroom materials

• Attend and assist in morning full-group rehearsals, and Thursday Evensong services

• Collaborate with Music Team to refine curriculum, evaluate students, monitor the efficacy of the program, and make placement decisions regarding probationary choristers

• Represent the Music Department at Cathedral School for Boys faculty meetings

Qualifications & Skills

• Experience with vocal pedagogy (including both young and changing voices), moveable-do solfege and Curwin hand signs, the Kodály method, and choral techniques

The Young Women’s Choral Projects of San Francisco (YWCP) is seeking a choral music educator for its beginning training ensemble, Prelude Chorus, starting in September 2022.

Through a Kodály-based music literacy program, young women in Prelude Chorus (grades 2-6) receive vocal and musical training, including music theory and ear training, sight-reading, vocal technique, and choral performance skills. Prelude Chorus is the beginning level of auditioned training choirs in YWCP. A young singer is auditioned, but needs no prior music training to join Prelude Chorus. In this ensemble, choristers learn repertoire in multiple languages, in unison and two-parts, as well as folk dances and other music games. Prelude Chorus meets twice a week, Wednesdays from 4-6 and Sundays from 4-5:30. They perform approximately five public performances a year.

The Young Women’s Choral Projects of San Francisco, founded by Dr. Susan McMane in 2012, is recognized as a world-class choral organization for young women. YWCP has six levels of choral experience for young women ages 4-18 from across the San Francisco Bay Area. The mission of YWCP is to transform the lives of young women through exceptional artistry in choral performance, and bring the expressive power of their music to the community, the nation, and the world. Through YWCP, participants of richly diverse socio-ethnic backgrounds find their voices as singers, artists, and women in a nurturing environment that empowers them to achieve artistic and personal excellence.
