Elementary Music Teacher (Choral, musical theater, and/or instrumental)
Job Description
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Organize and teach beginning classes in music (choral, musical theater,
and/or instrumental), and music education to elementary school students. Develop a performing music
ensemble at each school or group of schools to which assigned
DUTIES – E=Essential Duties
Establish a schedule of instrumental and vocal music activities for each school to which assigned E;
provide class instruction to beginning musicians and rehearse more advanced students teach and
provide a basic music vocabulary E ;organize and present instrumental and vocal music programs for
assemblies E; teach the basic foundations of music theory (note reading, rhythms, etc.) E; encourage
musical responsiveness and sensitivity in children through the aesthetic experience E; prepare progress
reports for each student instructed E; arrange the physical environment in which lessons, rehearsals,
and performances are conducted E; confer with parents and teaching staff on the instrumental and
vocal music program and individual student progress E; maintain an inventory of, and is responsible
for, District musical instruments assigned to his/her custody E; maintain and make minor adjustments
to musical instruments E; provide student demonstrations of musical instruments to classes upon
request E; other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
1. Valid California Single Subject Credential in Music
2. English Learner authorization is required
3. Valid California driver’s license
