Music Teacher (Part-Time / Visiting Specialist) - El Arbolito Preschool

Schedule: 1 each 30-minute class per week (Specific time TBD)

Compensation: $65 per class

*Eligiblie for $1000 stipend

About Us:

El Arbolito Preschool, a warm and nurturing family homecare Spanish-immersion preschool in Oakland, is seeking an energetic and talented Spanish-Speaking Music Teacher to join our enrichment program! We are dedicated to providing a loving environment where young children learn and grow while developing fluency in Spanish.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a visiting Music Teacher to lead a weekly music and movement class for our preschoolers. The ideal candidate is a musician and educator who can bring joy, rhythm, and cultural enrichment to the classroom. You will introduce children to basic musical concepts, rhythm, and songs entirely in Spanish, helping to support our immersion curriculum.

Responsibilities:

Instruction and Activities:

  • Plan and facilitate a weekly 30-minute music session appropriate for preschool-aged children (ages 18 months–48 months).

  • Lead activities including singing, dancing/movement, rhythm exercises, and fingerplays in Spanish.

  • Utilize musical instruments to engage children (El Arbolito provides a selection of instruments for student use, such as shakers, drums, and bells).

  • Introduce children to a variety of musical styles, with a preference for traditional songs from Spanish-speaking cultures.

  • Adapt lessons to accommodate different energy levels and attention spans typical of toddlers and preschoolers.

Classroom Management:

  • Create a fun, inclusive, and safe space for children to express themselves creatively.

  • Manage the group dynamic during the music hour to ensure all children are engaged and participating safely.

  • Collaborate with the lead teachers present during the class to support children who may need extra assistance.

Communication and Professionalism:

  • Communicate briefly with the director regarding the curriculum or any supplies needed.

  • Punctuality and reliability are essential for this weekly role.

Qualifications:

  • Fluency in Spanish is required. The class must be taught in Spanish to maintain our immersion environment.

  • Proficiency in playing at least one accompaniment instrument (Guitar, Ukulele, Keyboard, etc.) is highly preferred.

  • Previous experience teaching music to young children (preschool or early elementary).

  • Knowledge of early childhood development and age-appropriate musical milestones.

  • Patience, high energy, and a genuine love for working with children.

  • Requirements:

    • Background check and fingerprinting clearance.

    • Current TB test clearance.

    • Mandated Reporter training (or willingness to obtain)

Compensation:

  • $65 per class (1/2 hour of instruction)

  • $1000 stipend-must register with California Early Care and Education Workforce Registry and attend a measure C orientation. Will receive stipend in June 2026.
