Choral Teachers (Cantabella Children's Chorus)

Cantabella Children's Chorus is seeking an inspired and devoted teacher for our growing training division of children, K-5.

About Our Organization: Founded in 1992 by Bee Chow, Cantabella is the TriValley's hub for quality choral education, music literacy and performance skills for youth, ages 5-18. We have about 150 singers from the communities of Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin, San Ramon and Danville come together to participate in this internationally acclaimed and recognized program.

Responsibilies include:

  • Prepare lessons and direct the weekly rehearsals of our training classes (K-5th) in Livermore AND/OR Pleasanton. * This position could include either or both locations, depending upon availability. Livermore: Wednesdays possibly between 4:00-7:00pm, Pleasanton: Thursdays possibly between 4:00-7:00pm. Rehearsal length is 50-80 minutes long depending on the age level of the training class.

  • Prepare choir for annual winter and spring concerts.

  • Coordinate curriculum with the Training Program Director and the Artistic Director.

  • Work collaboratively with other faculty members in the development of our choral program.

  • Communicate actively with the families by means of email, phone, and direct contact before and after rehearsals.

  • Attend artistic staff meetings.

Curriculum and Pedagogy:

  • Develop and teach a consistent and sequential choral curriculum based on the Kodály method.

  • Musical concepts are to be taught, reviewed, and reinforced through games, movement, songs, and exercises.

  • Establish the foundation for excellent musicianship and singing skills as well as high performance standards.

  • Inspire children for a lifelong appreciation of music.

  • Treat children with kindness and respect.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Music and/or Music Education.

  • Significant teaching experience.

  • Piano skills / Strong vocal technique is a plus.

  • Formal Kodály training or equivalent teaching experience.

  • Collaborative spirit and positive attitude.

  • Must love working with young children.

  • Should be passionate about teaching young children the importance of musical literacy and vocal technique.

Compensation: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience within the salary guidelines of Cantabella Children's Chorus. This is a part time position with potential for growth.
