About Us

SFCM’s mission is to transform our students: artistically, intellectually, professionally and individually. Through the study of music at the highest level, our students learn to seek achievement in every endeavor, to convert challenges into opportunities, to understand the nature of excellence and to pursue their dreams with vigor and determination. We believe that inspiring the imagination, cultivating the artist, honing the intellect and developing the professional are the keys to launching innovative graduates who excel in any field.

SFCM loves to be at the center of good things happening in music education. Our students and alumni are doing incredible work in a range of disciplines: landing positions at the world’s top ensembles, working at the intersection of music and technology in Silicon Valley, and starting their own organizations and even going to medical school. In addition to its top-rated undergraduate and graduate curricula, SFCM offers other programs locally and nationally including the Pre-College division, the Rubin Institute for Music Criticism, and Continuing Education for adult learners. SFCM's Bowes Center has more than doubled the campus footprint, providing dorm room housing for the student body, and bringing state-of-the-art teaching facilities and three new performance halls to San Francisco’s Civic Center arts corridor.
